A Bit of History
The nabezky.sk portal was created in 2008 with the aim of providing up-to-date information about cross-country skiing conditions and creating a map of ski trails, including those maintained by grooming machinery. In 2013, to further develop these goals, the non-profit OZ Slovensko v pohybe was founded. Since the beginning, current snow-condition information has been contributed directly by skiers through the field report form. Later, we added the option to submit reports using the Na bežky! mobile application. Today, we also collect information through web cameras. Since December 2016, we have been gathering location data from grooming machines using GPS devices, providing skiers with an immediate source of information about freshly groomed trails across Slovakia.
Between 2013 and 2017, our organization cooperated with the Slovak Ski Association to organize cross-country skiing courses for beginners. We also worked on the Pezinská Baba – Biely Kríž groomed trail project and organized trail-maintenance volunteer events in the Little Carpathians. For five winter seasons, we promoted the nationwide Stopa project, which aimed to establish a national funding mechanism for grooming cross-country ski trails.
Current Activities
Today, our platform has developed to serve not only cross-country skiers, but also ski centers, municipalities, and other members of the public interested in mountain and snow conditions.
The information we provide originates from regular skiers submitting reports from the ski trips, ski-centers managers reporting about snow conditions in the ski centers, GPS devices installed in grooming equipment, and public sources of webcam imagery or meteorological data.
Services Provided to Organizations
We develop digital tools that help ski centers, municipalities, and trail operators communicate snow and trail conditions effectively. These tools allow partners to:
- collect and manage snow-condition reports,
- display reports on their own websites,
- publish updates to connected online platforms (including, with permission, their Facebook Pages),
- integrate map layers and data feeds into their communication channels.
